Below are links to blogs, articles and official government warnings concerning the "Guilin" Scam which is a scam involving a phony Chinese company which places a huge order with a foreign company then attempts to extract advance fees such a notarization fees, gifts, bribes, bank charges in association with the contract. The scam is so named because it is prevalent in that portion of China. Frequently, the scammers will insist that high ranking executives from the victim company travel to China to sign the contract. If the executives visit, there will be an elaborate presentation, involving fine dining and 5 star hotels, along with continued attempts to extract various fees from the victim. There will be a contract but it will be just as phony as the company. Once the executives leave China and the scammers have swindled all the advance fees they can, they will cease communications and the phony contract will never be executed.
